Rock Hill School District News For January 11 #rockhill #rockhillschools

Congratulations to . . .
Ashley Fripp's special education class at Ebenezer Avenue Elementary School on being one of two state winners in the BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina "Walking Works" competition. The competition, now in its third year, is aimed at boosting physical fitness and reducing childhood obesity. The coordinating teacher for this event was Pattie Ashe Starnes, PE teacher.

Passes to High Schools' Athletic Events
District employees are reminded that by using their district ID badge, they will gain free admission to all regular season athletic events that are held in Rock Hill Schools. The only time the badges cannot be used for admission is during football season when our high school teams play each other.

Fundraising Initiative at Dutchman Creek
District employees are invited to enjoy a great breakfast at Applebee's (on Dave Lyle Blvd.) this Saturday, Jan. 12, and help the 8th graders at Dutchman Creek Middle School raise funds for their annual trip to Washington, D.C. The breakfast will be held from 7-10 a.m., and tickets will be $6.50 in advance or at the door.

Invitations
District employees are invited to the Grand Opening of the Boys & Girls Clubs of York County Teen Center on Thursday, January 17, at the Rock Hill Flexible Learning Center. Festivities will begin at 4 pm with the ribbon cutting at 4:30. Guided tours will be available, and refreshments will be provided by Thi's Place on Main.
Students of Susan Fields, a teacher of Chemistry for the Technologies class at South Pointe High School, will showcase a challenge-based learning (CBL) project in the school's media center on Tuesday, January 15, from 6-8 pm. The project connects deer hunting and processing with feeding the hungry in Rock Hill. Everyone is invited!

Grant Opportunity
The Friends of the York County Library have again received a grant from the Renee B. Fisher Foundation to be given to 25 selected public school teachers in each York County school district. Each selected teacher will receive a voucher to purchase $25 worth of books and media for their classroom at the Friends of the York County Library Book Sale January 24-26.
