Rock Hill School District News For Friday, May 25, 2012

From Elaine T. Baker, Director of Information Services, Rock Hill Schools
Summer Reading Programs

Our schools have planned a number of reading initiatives for the summer.  In addition, our elementary schools should remember to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge sponsored by the Summer Reading Coalition. The winning school will receive a $500 cash award offered by Richard and Steve Heckard with Continuum Capital Advisory. Information was sent to the elementary schools earlier, but it's also posted on the district's website.

Winthrop BB Camp

Winthrop's new boys' basketball coach, Pat Kelsey, will offer camps this summer for children ages 4-6 and for those in grades 2-9.

A new tab titled iROCK can now be found at the top of the district's website. Only the results of the recent teacher survey are posted at this time, but lots of information will be added soon and throughout the summer.

Congratulations to . . .
Rawlinson Road Middle School's Seventh Grade Band on receiving ratings of "superior" at the Carowinds Music Festival on May 18. The band is directed by Michael Skellett.
York Road Elementary and the Northwestern High School Football Team which participated together in the KIDS WALK on April 13 at York Road Elementary to raise over $1,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  York Road and the NHS Football Team will receive the Golden Sneaker Award for community service from JDRF at the Walk Awards Celebration on Monday, June 4 (5:00-5:50 p.m.), in the Charlotte Knights Stadium.

Summer Fun
A big "thank you" is extended to the ParentSmart staff for sharing some great information about Rock Hill and what parents can plan for their children during the summer. See the attached ABC's and Summer Programming info.
