Teacher Writes Children's Book

Congratulations to Heather Gregory, an art teacher at Mount Gallant Elementary, whose "first" children's book, Ben and the Geocache Treasure, was internationally released on Oct. 4 by Tate Publishing. Heather says that if anyone wishes to purchase a copy, they can contact her at Mount Gallant, and she will be happy to sign the copy. The $9.99 paperback can also be ordered at the websites for Tate Publishing, Amazon, and other major book companies.

 

Literary Magazine Named State's Best

Northwestern High School's 2011 literary magazine, Visions, was selected the best in the state on October 17 by the S. C. Scholastic Press Assn. The magazine also won "All-State" honors and received a second-place award for a poem written by Alecz Yeager titled "Quilted Silence." Congratulations to advisor Claudine Hughes and the 2010-11 student editors.

 

Attention: Chocolate Lovers

The 3rd Annual Decadent Dreams Chocolate Festival, presented by Williams & Fudge, one of the district's most generous partners, will be held from 12:30-4:30 on Sunday, Nov. 6, in the Baxter Hood Center at York Technical College. Tickets will be $10 in advance and $15 at the door (Children 5 and under will be admitted free.) All proceeds will benefit Keystone Substance Abuse Services in Rock Hill. 

 

South Pointe High School Plans "Spirit Night" at McAlister's

The Concert Choir at South Pointe High School, directed by Beverly Laney, will sponsor a fundraising event at McAlister's Deli at Millwood on Herlong from 5:30-9:00 p.m. on Nov. 8. The chorus will sing while patrons enjoy great food. Patrons who mention South Pointe will allow the chorus to get a percentage of the sales for the evening.
