Rock Hill School News For Friday, November 5, 2010

  • Wally Blankenship, biology teacher at Rock Hill High, received a "Champions of the Environment" grant of $2,000 from the S.C. Dept. of Health and Environmental Control for a project titled "Woodland and Wetland Conservation Study Area."
  • Winners of State Board of Education "Volunteer" awards. These include Williams & Fudge, Outstanding Business Partnership; Darlene Ledwell, Outstanding Volunteer; and the School Improvement Council at the Children's School, Outstanding Civic Group.
  • Mount Holly Elementary on receiving $5,000 from the Tyco (Electronics) Foundation to sponsor Junior Achievement classes. The 4th and 5th grade students will be taught by volunteers from Tyco.
  • Kim Ham, art teacher at Mount Holly, has been selected to present at the NAEA National Convention in March. Kim will present "Paper Mache' Pulp: A New Approach to Sculpture for all Ages."
  • South Pointe will present the Fifth Annual Ye Olde Madrical Feaste at 7:00 p.m. Nov. 6 and at 2:00 p.m. Nov. 7. Order tickets ($15) today from Director Beverly Laney (980-2172) and join the Choral Dept. for a romp through the Renaissance complete with music, mayhem, and a magnificent meal.
  • A group of Chinese principals will visit in the district on Nov. 10.
