Comments on Using Test Scores To Evaluate Teachers

The Obama Administration has suggested evaluating teachers using student test scores - something I suspect the Republicans have suggested as well. The Education Policy Blog has some comments on this and they provide links to the Teacher Leaders Network, an article in The Sacramento Bee , and the American Psychological Association report on Testing and Assessment.

Click on the links and decide for yourself if this idea is workable.

The idea of testing teachers with tests designed to test students is ludicrous. It is also ridiculous to think that teaching is the only thing that affects test scores. Until all children are in safe and supportive homes with enough food and good health care and have lots of enrichment activities the testing will continue to test their backgrounds as well as their knowledge. Teacher evaluations and salaries should not be linked to test scores.
