<Congratulations to the directors of the band programs at Northwestern,
Rawlinson Road, Rock Hill High, South Pointe, and Sullivan on receiving the
S.C. Outstanding Performance Award. At the high school level, the award is
presented to bands that exhibit superior performance in all areas: marching
band, concert band, jazz band, region and all-state selections and solo and
ensemble.

<For those who love to play golf and who want to support a wonderful school
program, Rock Hill Schools will host the "Power of Mentoring" Golf
Tournament on Saturday, June 27, at Waterford Golf Course.

<Family Trust Federal Credit Union purchased a new sound system for the
Mayberry Crooners at Saluda Trail. The citizens of Mayberry, led by Sheriff
Saundra Booker, took a field trip to Family Trust this week to complete a
unit on money .

<Northwestern has scheduled the dedication of its Legacy Garden at 2:30 p.m.
on May 18. The garden is an impressive addition to the Northwestern campus,
and students will enjoy their opportunities to have class outside; hold
performances in an outdoor setting; and pay tribute to former teachers and
students.

<Hats off to director Marsha Gross and her string students at Northwestern
who earned 24 superior ratings and 13 excellent ratings at the S.C. Solo and
Ensemble Festival. The Elite Chamber Orchestra received one point away from
a perfect score.

<A cell phone drive is being held for SAFE Passage, a domestic violence
protection/prevention organization. Donated phones will be refurbished and
issued to their clients for emergency use. The reception area in the
district office on Anderson Road will be one of the 20 drop-off sites around
the county.

<Progeny of Northwestern will hold its annual talent show, "One Night Only,"
at 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, in the auditorium. Tickets will be $5 in
advance and $7 at the door. For more information, contact Desmond Cato via
