Rosewood "Closing the Gap" on State Tests
The S.C. Education Oversight Committee has announced that Rosewood Elementary is one of the 141 elementary and middle schools state-wide that will be honored on April 14 for their efforts "to close the achievement gap" among students of differing economic, racial, and ethnic groups. This is the second time that Rosewood, an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school, has achieved this distinction. Hats off to Principal Stephen Ward, his outstanding faculty, and hundreds of hard-working students.

<Third and fifth-grade students at Northside Elementary School of the Arts will present Disney's 101 Dalmatians at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in the auditorium at South Pointe High.

<Congratulations to Northwestern's Jeff Venables, a chemistry and forensic science teacher, who was awarded an $800 scholarship at the Palmetto State Teachers Assn.'s (PSTA) annual convention on March 14. Jeff is working toward a doctorate in education from Walden University and is a PSTA board member.

<The Northwestern Purple Regiment will sponsor its first fish fry on March 29 and 30 in the school cafeteria. Tickets will be $7 except for children under age 10 who will eat free. Raffle tickets on a 42-inch flat screen TV will also be for sale. Saturday hours will be 11:30-7:30 while Sunday hours will be 11:00-6:00. Call 981-1225 to place orders or for raffle ticket information.

<The Come-See-Me Festival is "calling stars of all ages" for Broadway Night at Glencairn Gardens! Auditions for soloists or groups will be held on March 31 and April 1 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

<National History Day Coordinator, Meredith Spradley, is proud to announce that 71 students from Rock Hill High, Rawlinson Road, Sullivan, and Saluda Trail qualified for the state NHD competition which will be held in April. Judges for the March 14 regional competition included persons from the S.C. Dept. of Ed., Winthrop, York Tech, Chester, Clover, and Lancaster school districts and our own Queenie Hall, David Norton, Jackie Chumley, Martha Warner, Tim Warner, and Lisa Robbins

<The second annual run/walk for the Isabel Jurado Foundation will be held at the Winthrop Coliseum on Saturday, May 24. Isabel is a student at Finley Road Elementary.
