Celebrating Art
March is Youth Art Month and beautiful student artwork can be seen at several prominent locations. Colorful banners designed by students in nine schools can be seen on Main Street in downtown Rock Hill, and three cubes are being showcased in the Plaza at City Hall. Artwork is on display in the Centre for the Arts, and the showcase in the district office is currently highlighting the work of students from Northwestern.

Sunset Park to Host Meetings on Magnet School Concept
The Accelerated Studies Program proposed for Sunset Park Elem. will be the topic at three meetings this week—3:00 & 7:00 p.m. Mar. 6 and 8:00 a.m. Mar. 7. All parents who are interested in hearing about this magnet school concept are invited to attend. Sunset Park is located at 1036 Ogden Road.

<Congratulations to teachers Carman Austin, from India Hook, and Dana Carlyle, from Northside, who have been selected to attend one-week sessions at the Science P.L.U.S. Institute at Roper Mountain Science Center this summer. Both teachers will learn new hands-on science activities to use in their classrooms and receive science materials and supplies valued at over $500.

<Susan Snyder, a teacher at Northwestern, is collecting old, used crayons for the school's Environmental Science Club. While learning the importance of recycling, club members are melting the crayons and molding them into fun shapes to give out to young students. (Susan will be happy to accept donations of old crayons

< Congratulations to Cathy Griffin, adviser of Northwestern's Model UN team, which took a number of top awards at the UNCC Model UN competition Feb. 23. In addition to individual awards, the delegation from the United Kingdom won the first place overall award.

<Tanya Campbell, principal at Ebenezer Avenue, and teachers Lori Hodge, Mattie Soles, and Belinda Rinehart were presenters at the recent Title 1 Administrators' state conference in Columbia. Their session was titled "Power Packed Reading."

<Hats off to Misty Massey, a media clerk at Castle Heights, whose novel Mad Kestrel went on sale March 4.
Misty will attend "book signings" at 7:00 p.m. March 7 at Barnes & Noble in Carolina Place and from noon until 2:00 p.m. March 8 at the Book Rack in Rock Hill. 

<The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA) has launched an online message board to improve the flow of communication among teachers in S.C.
