Northside Principal Receives Art Award

Linda Crute, principal of Northside Elementary School of the Arts,  has been selected as the Outstanding Elementary Principal of the Year by the S.C. Art Education Assn.

 

...The Northwestern Air Force Junior R.O.T.C. unit was recently evaluated and awarded the highest rating attainable. The evaluation stated: "Your program defines the term 'successful unit' and establishes the benchmark for others to follow." Instructors are Col. Arthur Ahl and CMSGT Johnny Neal.

...The Northwestern Purple Regiment, directed by Larry Wells and assisted by Mark Yost, recently placed second in the upper-state AAAA marching band championship and finished fourth overall in state competition. The South Pointe Band of Thunder placed 6th in 3A Competition.  The Rock Hill Bearcat Band competes this Saturday in the Big 16 Competition.

...The Northwestern Varsity Cheerleaders, coached by Koren Pantsari, are the Region 3 AAAA champions. They also took first place at the Stallion Invitational, the Bearcat Invitational, and the Trojan Invitational.

...The Boys' Cross Country Team, coached by Calvin Hudgins, won the region championship last week, and the girls' team finished second. Both teams have qualified for the AAAA state championship this Saturday.

 

<Castle Heights will host the S.C. Middle School Assn.'s regional conference at 6:00 p.m. on Nov. 13.

<King James I requests the honor of your presence at the Second Annual Madrigal Feaste at South Pointe on Sat., Nov. 10, at 7:00 and Sun., Nov. 11, at 2:00. Guests will enjoy a festive catered dinner, and entertainment will consist of fencing, acting, singing, and merriment! <Music educator Allison Odom is pleased to announce that all students at India Hook will be introduced to opera as they attend "Carmenella" on Nov. 8. "Carmenella" is the classic fairytale of Cinderella told through the songs of the famous opera "Carmen." It will be performed by the UNC-G Opera Theatre.

<Junior Achievement of York County, with Oakdale teacher Deb Wybenga, will be featured on "Face 2 Face" on Cable 14 through Nov. 11. The show will air at various times, but 6:00 p.m. is often the hour to watch.

<Gail Abernethy, guidance counselor at Mount Gallant, was a presenter at the S.C. School Counselor Assn. Fall Conference in Charleston earlier this week. Her presentation was titled "Counselor School of Rock: Incorporating Contemporary Music into the Guidance Curriculum.
