District Three News for 10/17

Proposed Calendar for 2008-09
For the first time in years, it's "likely" that all four school districts in York County will have "almost" identical calendars. Here are the highlights:

...Teachers report on Weds., Aug. 13. The first day for students will be Weds., Aug. 20. (Transition Day for 6th and 9th graders =Aug. 19)

...Other teacher days will be Oct. 13, Oct. 24, Jan. 16, Feb. 13, and June 5.
...Thanksgiving will be Nov. 26-28 and the winter holidays, Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.
...Spring break will be observed April 13-17 following Easter on April 12.
...Other holidays are Labor Day (Sept. 1), Election Day (Nov. 4), MLK (Jan. 19), and Presidents' Day (Feb. 16).
...The last day for students will be Thursday, June 4.
<The RHH Baseball Boosters will hold their annual fall BBQ fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 19, at the American Legion across from the District Three Stadium. From 4:30-7:30, prior the RHH vs. Fort Mill varsity football game, one can enjoy BBQ plates for $6 (dine in or take out, rain or shine).

<The sister of RHH teacher Adrienne Holland was named last night as the winner of "I Wanna Be a Soap Star." Ashlee will begin her 13-week stint on "The Days of Our Lives" on Oct. 19.

<The RH Area Chamber will hold its annual Education Awards Breakfast on Nov. 16. Saundra Booker, District Teacher of the Year, will be honored along with a top educator from Winthrop, York Tech, and Clinton Junior College. The South Pointe Concert Choir, under the direction of Beverly Laney, will provide entertainment.

<Congratulations to Northwestern's Mark Yost who has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the S.C. Department of Education for the 2008 Jazz Discovery Music Festival.
