Northwestern Legacy Garden

The Legacy Garden

At

Northwestern High School

Northwestern High School is excited about the new Legacy Garden that was started this summer thanks to a $5000.00 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant written by the choral department’s leadership.  Students from the ATC masonry, carpentry, and other classes are working to transform the 8300 square foot grassy area adjacent to the main courtyard into a multi-purpose outdoor venue.  The plan includes a 40 seat amphitheater and large pergola that can be enjoyed by students for lunch as well as used as outdoor classrooms or for an evening performance or reception.  Personalized brick pavers are being sold to help finance the garden and will make up the floor of the pergola, part of the amphitheater area and a “Walk-of –Honor” that connects them. Students, teachers, and community volunteer groups will be working together on October 27th- “Make a Difference Day,” to install over 100 shrubs, trees and perennials to create the garden areas.  Special sections of the garden will include a memorial garden and a Carolina Fence garden that will be an Eagle Scout project. We are hoping that broad participation of students, teachers and the community, and the ongoing installation of permanently engraved bricks, will create a sense of ownership that will be enjoyed by this and many future classes at Northwestern.
