2007 PACT Comments and Links

Here’s a look at state data:

Grade 3:

* English: 85.8 percent met standard in 2007, down from 86.4 percent in 2006.

* Mathematics: 78.4 percent met standard in 2007, down from 80.9 percent in 2006.

* Science: 64.5 percent met standard in 2007, up from 62.7 percent in 2006.

* Social Studies: 84.7 percent met standard in 2007, up from 79.4 percent in 2006.

Grade 4

* English: 82.7 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 81.8 percent in 2006.

* Mathematics: 78.1 percent met the standard in 2007, down slightly from 78.4 percent in 2006.

* Science: 63.8 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 62.8 percent in 2006.

* Social Studies: 73.7 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 72.4 percent in 2006.

Grade 5

* English: 77.2 percent met the standard in 2007, down from 79.8 percent in 2006.

* Mathematics: 77.7 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 75.9 percent in 2006.

* Science: 60.6 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 59.5 percent in 2006.

* Social Studies: 63.8 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 62.4 percent in 2006.

Grade 6

* English: 70.9 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 69.1 percent in 2006.

* Mathematics: 77.2 percent met the standard in 2007, down from 78.6 percent in 2006.

* Science: 59.5 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 51.9 percent in 2006.

* Social Studies: 77.1 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 67.7 percent in 2006.

Grade 7

* English: 69.8 percent met the standard in 2007, down from 70.1 percent in 2006.

* Mathematics: 76.8 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 74.8 percent in 2006.

* Science: 64.8 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 57 percent in 2006.

* Social Studies: 57.3 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 53.9 percent in 2006.

Grade 8

* English: 71.3 percent met the standard in 2007, down from 72.7 percent in 2006.

* Mathematics: 67.9 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 65.3 percent in 2006.

* Science: 63.7 percent met the standard in 2007, up from 60.1 percent in 2006.

* Social Studies: 65.9 percent met the standard in 2007, down from 67.4 percent in 2006.

“I think in general our scores are pretty flat,” said Harriet Jaworowski, Rock Hill’s associate superintendent for instruction and accountability. “They’re very close to what they were last year. We had the same issues with the same subgroups of kids.”

Jaworowski said the district recognizes that more work needs to be done to reach students in poverty and school officials are working hard to implement programs to support them.
